[Wednesday April 29, 2009.]
I am just stumped about Thomas McHenry and his birth date. A lot of what I need to find is contingent on his birth year and if that's inaccurate then I could waste a lot of time. There are SO many Thomas McHenry's it's ridiculous. And it's not even the date that's off; it's the year and the location. His Thomas McHenry's death certificate says that he was born on April 4, 1842 in N.Y. On the census from 1880 it lists him as 30 years old and this means he would have been born about 1850 or so.

[Tuesday April 28, 2009.]
Adding a lot more scans of documents especially. I've added some stuff about William McHenry's lost son Jerome. [It's probably absolutely true.] There is a lot of detective work to do but I'm getting somewhere with most everything. A more recent family tree is posted.

[Saturday April 18, 2009]

I've fixed up the top navigation for now so it'll be easier to click around. I wanted to make an entirely separate menu from the main one I'm building for [smartwentcrazy.com] but it's too time consuming and I'd rather have something useful now. Some of the non-McHenry links in the menu are intentionally missing as I'm redesigning everything. Again.

I ran across the McNerney-McInerney Genealogy site and when I see the pedigree that's posted there it makes me really feel like I am related to these people somehow. The names and the places seem to really fit. Who knows.

Some Points & Questions That I Wish I Could Answer:

  • I think that the mothers maiden name listed on the death certificate for WILLIAM THOMAS MCHENRY is spelled incorrectly at least. It's listed as MATILDA SLUGETT and I get a ton more hints for a surname of SLUGGETT. [Solved.]
  • The obituary for ALPHONSUS ANDREW MCHENRY II is driving me crazy. It lists him having a brother named Thomas and my mom swears that this isn't true or even possible. Then where did the paper get that from?
  • Did THOMAS MCHENRY have any siblings? I imagine he probably did because it seems to me that in the 1800's people just cranked them out. People died young back then and it seems like people had big families and it's surprising to me if he was an only child.

The Extra/Missing McHenry's:

John McHenry [Thomas' Father]: All there is really is the death certificate information provided by my Great Uncle Alphonsus McHenry I but I somehow trust him. The thing that just kills me is that some seemingly unrelated McHenry that lived in St. Louis at the same time as my Great Grandfather THOMAS MCHENRY did, and was named CORNELIUS J. MCHENRY, also shared a father named John McHenry. Neither listed anything positive for the mothers maiden name and  one did have it listed it as Ellen? Look, everybody is named after someone else in my family. I'm JASON ANDREW MCHENRY and I'm named after my Uncle Andrew who was on the Navy on the USS Jason. My Uncle Brian's middle name is Thomas after his Grandfather. My Uncle Andy was named after his dad who in turn was named after his father's brother ALPHONSUS ANDREW MCHENRY. [The first.] - SO, that brings me to the question of where they chose the name CORNELIUS WILLIAM MCHENRY for my other uncle? They just invented that one? I think that the other CORNELIUS MCHENRY is also related to us somehow.

Some More Facts:

  • The informant for some of the missing McHenry's death certificates is listed as MISS MARY MCHENRY of the same address as everyone of them; 4204 Westminster.
  • The Other McHenry's were born in Illinois and St. Louis and were buried at St. Patrick's in Alton, Illinois.
